Celebrating 100 Years of South African Heritage in the Heart of Paarl – A Century of Pinotage

In 1925, something remarkable took root in the Cape Winelands — a new grape variety that would one day become a national treasure. Professor Abraham Perold of Stellenbosch University crossed Pinot Noir and Cinsaut to create what we now know as Pinotage, South Africa’s very own cultivar.

A hundred years later, this bold, beautiful wine continues to tell the story of South Africa’s creativity, resilience, and pride. And there’s no better place to celebrate this milestone than right here in Drakenstein’s wine valley, where heritage, craftsmanship, and community live side by side.

From Vineyard to Legacy

Paarl and Wellington are home to some of the country’s most celebrated wineries — including Windmeul and Vondeling Wines, who both call this valley home. These vineyards carry forward Perold’s legacy through award-winning Pinotage vintages that capture the richness of our soil, the warmth of our climate, and the passion of our people.

Each bottle tells a story — of deep red fruit, smoky spice, and South African sunshine — crafted with respect for the past and vision for the future.
